40K Champs: Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss

As we approach the event this year, we start to look back and years past and compare how we're doing to previous years.  This year, with the Frontline Gaming crew taking over the 40K events, one thing we don't miss is List Review.

Previously we've supervised 40K lists and guided folks into the direction for the event.  And here's what we've learned from doing that for all these years: it sucks!  It takes a lot of our time, plus it also sucks for participants who are trying to finalize their list.  If you've ever done the round-round-back-and-forth on list review, then you're already starting to have a bad experience before the event even starts.  That's precisely one of the things we wanted to avoid this year.

And that's exactly where the ITC format comes in: it provides a consistent experience that allows you to build a list well before the event, without having to worry about the list submission and review process.  It also allows for things like Practice Events (like the WAR Games Con Primer at Tabletop in San Antonio this weekend) where you can practice with same the missions and rules you'll experience at WAR Games Con 2015.

The ITC format does differ from our past events, but a tournament format change was inevitable with all of the changes in the way 40K is now played.  We learned last year that people just don't want to play the "wide open" 40K in a tournament.  (Except the two of you; thanks guys!)  While there are changes, key things remain: the Champion and beer.  The Overall winner is the highest of Battle + Paint points, and that's how we'd decided our Champion from the very beginning. (Which, by the way, is not the standard ITC Champion, even though only Battle points will be reported for ITC standings.)  And then the beer: beer service is back, just like last year.

We're down to our last 50 spots for the 40K Championship, and from years past, we know that those go quickly in the last two week.  There's also less than a week left for the special group room rate at the Doubletree, so if you haven't booked that yet, now's the time.

See y'all in a few weeks!
