WAR Games Con 2015 40K Champion

Sure to be the next fashion statement next year: pajama pants.

Alan “Pajama Pants” Bajramovic has won again at WAR Games Con, edging out local Nick Rose (Darkwynn from the Internet).  Congrats to all the competitors and thanks again to the Frontline Gaming crew for putting on such a great event.

40K Champs: Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss

As we approach the event this year, we start to look back and years past and compare how we're doing to previous years.  This year, with the Frontline Gaming crew taking over the 40K events, one thing we don't miss is List Review.

Previously we've supervised 40K lists and guided folks into the direction for the event.  And here's what we've learned from doing that for all these years: it sucks!  It takes a lot of our time, plus it also sucks for participants who are trying to finalize their list.  If you've ever done the round-round-back-and-forth on list review, then you're already starting to have a bad experience before the event even starts.  That's precisely one of the things we wanted to avoid this year.

And that's exactly where the ITC format comes in: it provides a consistent experience that allows you to build a list well before the event, without having to worry about the list submission and review process.  It also allows for things like Practice Events (like the WAR Games Con Primer at Tabletop in San Antonio this weekend) where you can practice with same the missions and rules you'll experience at WAR Games Con 2015.

The ITC format does differ from our past events, but a tournament format change was inevitable with all of the changes in the way 40K is now played.  We learned last year that people just don't want to play the "wide open" 40K in a tournament.  (Except the two of you; thanks guys!)  While there are changes, key things remain: the Champion and beer.  The Overall winner is the highest of Battle + Paint points, and that's how we'd decided our Champion from the very beginning. (Which, by the way, is not the standard ITC Champion, even though only Battle points will be reported for ITC standings.)  And then the beer: beer service is back, just like last year.

We're down to our last 50 spots for the 40K Championship, and from years past, we know that those go quickly in the last two week.  There's also less than a week left for the special group room rate at the Doubletree, so if you haven't booked that yet, now's the time.

See y'all in a few weeks!

It's WAR Games Con 2015, Y'all

It's that time again: time to get packed up and head to Austin for a lucky 7th year to enjoy 4 days of war games and fun. What would this convention be without some changes? (It wouldn't be a BoLS/WARGames/TexasGames/Con without a name change).  Here’s what’s going on this year:

First, we’ve brought in Frontline Gaming to run the 40K Events and the registration process. They are just coming off a hugely successful Las Vegas Open-- the largest 40K tournament ever-- so we know they are up to the task. We’re looking forward to the experience Reece, Frankie and the rest of the team bring to WAR Games Con. We’ll be using the ITC rules, so read up and adjust accordingly.

We’ve also got a full X-Wing schedule this year. None other than BoLS Editor in Chief Larry (BigRed) will be running the show which will include a 100 point tournament, a 300 point tournament and an EPIC sized big game.

Despite all the new stuff, we’ve got a few excellent events returning once again. Flames of War Early War Nationals will be back for another year with a 5 round, 2 day tournament. Lists are due June 12th, so you still have time to get those in.

Privateer Press returns with a staggering line-up of 11 Warmachine/Hordes events over the three days! You can buy individual days, or save money with a three day pass. The line-up is highlighted by the first Iron Gauntlet tournament of the season, but keep in mind this event requires a fully painted army, so get to painting!

Don’t forget, each event at WAR Games Con 2015 requires a Convention Badge, which is available at the registration site below.

Ok, we're just resurrecting the machine spirit on this site, so give us a bit to get it back up to speed.
